〜ないでは済まない — Meaning & Examples

"Won't get away without doing." Social/moral pressure to act: 謝らないでは済まない = won't get off without apologising. Also 〜ずには済まない; cf. 冗談では済まない.

〜ないでは済まない — "Won't Get Away Without..."

ないでは済まない(ないではすまない)means the situation will not resolve unless you do something — socially or morally, you can't escape it.

Pattern: [verb ない-form] + では済まない
(also: 〜ずには済まない — slightly more literary)

人の物を壊したのだから、弁償しないでは済まない。
= You broke someone's property, so you can't get away without paying for it.

これだけ迷惑をかけたのだから、謝らないでは済まないだろう。
= After causing this much trouble, you won't get off without apologising.

事情を説明せずには済まないだろう。
= There will be no getting around explaining the situation.

The full N1+N2 inevitability map:
・ざるを得ない = no choice but to(reluctant duty)

・ずにはいられない = can't help doing(inner urge)

・を禁じ得ない = can't suppress(emotion, formal)

・を余儀なくされる = forced by events(news)

・ずにはおかない = inevitably causes / will definitely

・ないでは済まない = won't get away without
