〜わけだ — "No Wonder / That's Why"

わけだ draws a logical conclusion from evidence. You've just learned something, and it explains a fact you already noticed.

Pattern: [plain form] + わけだ

3年も日本に住んでいたのか。道理で日本語がペラペラなわけだ。
= You lived in Japan for 3 years? No wonder your Japanese is fluent.

外は雪が降っているのか。寒いわけだ。
= It's snowing outside? No wonder it's cold.

みんな帰ったの?じゃあ、静かなわけだ。
= Everyone went home? Ah, that's why it's quiet.

Often paired with 道理で (douride) = "no wonder":
道理で〜わけだ is a very natural combination.

わけだ can also mean "so in other words / it works out that":
1ドル150円だから、1万円は約66ドルになるわけだ。

= At 150 yen to the dollar, 10,000 yen works out to about 66 dollars.

Key feeling: A satisfying "ah, that explains it!" — connecting a cause you just discovered to an effect you already knew.
