Meaning & Examples

Accusatory "even though." Criticises or blames. 知らないくせに = you don't even know, yet... Casual only — too strong for formal use. Very common in manga and anime.

Complaining / Accusing "Even Though"

くせに is STRONGER than のに — it has a clear tone of accusation or criticism toward someone else (or yourself). Use it only in casual speech!

Pattern: [plain form] + くせに

Examples:

= You don't even know anything, stop interfering! (telling someone off)

= You're weak, so stop acting so high and mighty!

= They're not even good at it, yet they talk like a pro.

= Acting cheeky for someone who's just a kid.

Self-directed (self-scolding):

= You knew, so why didn't you say anything?

Important rules:
- くせに is INFORMAL — don't use in business/formal settings

- It ALWAYS implies fault or criticism

- Very common in manga, anime, and casual speech — you'll DEFINITELY see this!

知らないのに話す → disappointed/noting it

YOU'RE CRITICISING THEM hard 🔥

くせに comes from 癖 (kuse) = habit / tendency — the nuance is "you have the BAD HABIT of doing X despite Y"
